Shoreline considers prayer foundational to a solid & successful Christian walk.

1.  Prayer is an act of dedication. John 15:5-7, Jesus is giving an illustration of a plant, I am the like a vine and you Christians are like the branches.

I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.  If a person does not dwell in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken-off] branch, and withers; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, and they are burned.  If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.

2.  Prayer is an act of communication.

John 15:15-16   Jesus says this,

I do not call you servants (slaves) any longer, for the servant does not know what his master is doing (working out). But I have called you My friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father. [I have revealed to you everything that I have learned from Him.]

You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed you [I have planted you], that you might go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit may be lasting [that it may remain, abide], so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name [as presenting all that I AM], He may give it to you.

He says the reason you can ask anything in prayer is because we're friends.  Isn't that amazing? God says, "I don't treat you like servants, like slaves.  I treat you as friends."

3.  Prayer is an act of supplication. .

In Philippians 4:6-7  it says,

"Don't worry about anything but in everything, with your prayers and your supplications, make your requests known to God and the peace of God which passes all understanding will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

The result of your asking, your requests in prayer, will be peace of mind.

4.  Prayer is an act of cooperation.  John 14:12-14

"I can guarantee this truth: Those who believe in me will do the things that I

am doing. They will do even greater things because I am going to the

Father. I will do anything you ask the Father in my name so that the Father

will be given glory because of the Son. If you ask me to do something, I will

do it. "

 1.  BE PASSIONATE. Jeremiah 29:13 "God says, `You will find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.'"

2.  PRAY PERSISTENTLY. Look at Colossians 4:2, "Don't be weary in prayer.  Keep at it. Watch for God's answers."  He's saying, Don't quit too soon. Jesus said it like this in the Sermon on the Mount, "Keep on asking, keep on knocking, keep on seeking."

3.  BE PRECISE.  James 4:2 says "The reason you don't have what you want is because you don't ask God for it.  You have not because you ask not."

4.  BE POSITIVE. Mark 11:24 "Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it will be yours."  Notice the incredible promise: "Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it will be yours."  Two qualifications.  Circle the words, "ask" and "believe".  Those are the two conditions.  You must ask and then you must believe.

5.  BE GRATEFUL OR PRAISEFUL "In all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking Him with a thankful heart."  Ph. 4:6 (GN)
